A New Way to Return to Nature: Loop Biotech

At Closing Circles, we believe every family deserves options that reflect what truly matters to them, whether that’s tradition, faith, simplicity, or something entirely new. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Arrow Bronze, the official Australian and New Zealand distributor for Loop Biotech, bringing their world-first mushroom coffins and urns to families across Perth and Western Australia.

What is Loop Biotech?

Loop Biotech is the company behind the world’s first mushroom coffin, the Loop Living Cocoon™. Grown from mycelium (the root structure of mushrooms), the Cocoon is entirely natural, fully biodegradable, and designed to enrich the soil rather than sit within it unchanged for decades, the way conventional coffins do.

Since launching, Loop Biotech’s products have been chosen by more than 2,500 families worldwide, rated 5 out of 5 on Google, and recognised with genuine design honours including the German Design Award and iF Design Award. Their work has been featured by the BBC, CNN, The Guardian, and the Wall Street Journal.

Australia recently saw its first Loop Biotech farewell, a mushroom coffin funeral held in the Blue Mountains, NSW, with Arrow Bronze confirmed as the exclusive Australian distributor bringing this technology to families nationwide.

The products

Loop Living Cocoon™ — the mushroom coffin itself, certified for natural burial, traditional burial, and cremation.

Loop EarthRise™ — a mushroom urn, offering the same natural, soil-enriching philosophy for cremated remains.

Loop ForestBed™ — a mushroom carrier, a gentle, natural alternative for those who prefer a simpler resting vessel.

Why families are choosing this

For many people, the idea of returning to the earth in a way that actually gives something back, rather than leaving synthetic materials behind, feels deeply aligned with how they lived. The Living Cocoon contains no glue, no plastic, nothing but nature caring for itself, as one Loop Biotech customer described it.

It’s not for everyone, and that’s exactly the point. Just as we offer Essential, Honoured, and Traditional options for cremation and burial, and both traditional and eco-friendly choices throughout, the Living Cocoon is simply one more way for a farewell to genuinely reflect the person it’s for.

Available soon through Closing Circles

Through our partnership with Arrow Bronze, Closing Circles is bringing the Living Cocoon and related Loop products to families across Perth and WA. We’re currently working through approval with the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board (MCB) to ensure the Living Cocoon can be used at WA cemeteries and crematoria, and we’ll share updates as this progresses.

Pricing is available on application while we finalise our offering, please reach out and we’ll talk you through it directly.

If a natural, soil-enriching farewell feels right for you or someone you love, we’d welcome the chance to talk it through.

Tubby’s Quiet Courage – His End-of-Life Plan

How one man’s quiet, End-of-Life planning became a gift to those he loved.  Some stories arrive softly and leave a lasting imprint. Tubby’s story is one of those, a quiet man, a vulnerable season, and the profound steadiness that thoughtful End-of-Life planning can offer a family. When I had the honour of being invited to meet Tubby for the first time on Easter Sunday, in a small country town three hours south of Perth, the streets were quiet and the air fresh. He greeted me with the same gentle steadiness his family had described, a gentleman of very few words

Bassendean 55+ Wednesday Wellbeing

Your Values, Your Farewell: Reflections from Bassendean We recently gathered with the Bassendean 55+ community for a workshop titled Your Values, Your Farewell. Together, we explored how our everyday priorities connect to the legacy we leave and the way we wish to be remembered. Each guest used a personal mapping booklet to reflect on what matters most, imagining how a farewell can truly honour the unique story of a life. The conversations were thoughtful, honest, and deeply moving. During our time together, several practical questions arose regarding funerals, decision-making, and Western Australian law. We’ve compiled those answers below to support
